Announcing MoonSchool
42nd Street Moon's new
MUSICAL THEATER CLASSES!
WORKING ACTORS WORKOUTS:
Moon’s “Working Actors Workouts” are weekly cooperative, drop-in, rotating programs designed to encourage community, collaboration and provide a place for working artists of all levels, to brush-up or learn new skills. It is designed to be a non-competitive, cooperative environment where actors of all skill levels and experience can meet for a mid-week workout and social scene. Classes are held every Wednesday at the company’s MoonSpace, 250 Van Ness at Grove Street, usually from 10:30am – 11:30am maybe a little longer depending on the week’s topic. For more information click here.
DISCUSSION SUNDAYS:
After the performance on the first Sunday of each run the audience is invited to stay for a post-show discussion with the cast and directors of the shows. Occasionally, special guests join in the discussion. Topics explored include (and not limited to) the history of the original production, including composers, lyricists, and book writers as well as, the backgrounds of the original Broadway cast members.

HIGHSCHOOL STUDENT INVITED PREVIEW:
42nd Street Moon is proud to announce the start of a new educational program, STUDENT INVITED PREVIEW.
The first Wednesday evening preview of each 42nd Street Moon musical will now include students from San Francisco's SCHOOL OF THE ARTS, who will attend the performance for free as part of our effort to make theatre more accessible to students.
On the Wednesday preview, SOTA students will meet in the Eureka Theatre one hour prior to a special 7pm performance. Moon Artistic Director Greg MacKellan, along with each show's directors, will lead a discussion about the play's creators (this season including Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and the Gershwins). The students will learn about the time period of the show, placing it in the context of the social history of the era when it premiered. Other historical facts, which were pertinent to the show's original presentation, will be discussed, as well as stories of how each piece was originally written and rehearsed.
Following the performance, the students will have the opportunity to meet the cast in question and answer session.

FAMILY MATINEE:
In order to grow younger audiences, our season features the “Family Matinee,” a series of special Saturday matinees with $8 admission for children under 18. Activity guides designed for each show are available. A pre-show talk welcomes parents and families and mentions special things that children should look for during the show. A brief question and answer discussion with the actors follows the performance, and a reception with punch and cookies completes the afternoon.
42nd Street Moon's premise for creating the "Family Matinee" is to make musical theatre affordable and accessible for young people along with their parents and to provide families the opportunity to experience classic Broadway. By creating relevant and fun activities and supplying comprehensive and interesting discussion guides, families will discover how theatre has served an important function in our nation’s cultural landscape.
Our season brochure can be downloaded from our website here.
We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
