It is with very heavy hearts that Daniel and Cindy write to you today.  As 42nd Street Moon transitioned from outgoing Executive Artistic Director, Daniel Thomas, to Interim Artistic Director, Cindy Goldfield, the company reviewed its current financial situation, particularly cash flow.

As you’ve no doubt heard countless times, coming back from the pandemic has been a struggle across the arts; Moon was fortunate to make it back at all, albeit with depleted cash reserves. Since then, the costs of producing theatre have continued to go up, and our audience numbers still do not match our pre-pandemic numbers. Our last two productions, for all of their audience and critical acclaim, fell short of their budget goals, further impacting our cash position. In order to take the time to make a concrete and fiscally healthy plan, we are making the decision to postpone BRIGHT STAR, scheduled for June.

We apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment we know this causes, but we are planning to include BRIGHT STAR in our 24-25 Season. We will honor all ticket-holder and subscriber purchases for the new dates.

Everyone at Moon – Cindy, Daniel, our artists, Board, and Staff – have worked tirelessly over the years to ensure that we have been able to bring you great musical theatre, and we feel confident that the long-term outlook for Moon is bright. To that end, our 2024-2025 Season Announcement will be coming shortly, and we look forward to many more years together!
